Over the course of four days, 100 families joined Head of School Scott Hardister for a casual, virtual “Coffee and Conversation.”
Parents had the opportunity to meet new Assistant Head of School Diego Tejas Zaragoza and learn about the role that he has undertaken at FAIS. This includes:
- A school-wide look at diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts;
- Creating a strategy for further investing in the technology program;
- Overseeing the extracurricular program and enhancing our summer offerings;
- ...and much more!
Scott also discussed the School’s efforts in three areas:
FAIS embarked on a strategic planning effort in the winter of 2020, to begin thinking ambitiously about the future of FAIS. Though this effort was temporarily halted, we are picking up the process full-swing this fall. The Strategic Planning committee will have broad representation, and there will be opportunities for all stakeholders at FAIS to participate in the ideation of our priorities as a school for the next five, ten, and fifty years.
Part of the Strategic Planning process led us to a review of our mission. Beginning last Spring, FAIS launched a taskforce to undertake this task, made up of administrators, teachers, trustees, and parents. The group is working to evaluate and rework the FAIS mission through the lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
A critical element of the Strategic Planning process revolves around capital development at FAIS. The opening of the new Middle School building in 2019 brought the rest of our campus into stark contrast, and we are committed to bringing the rest of campus up to the level of our beautiful new Middle School. Philanthropy from our families and community made the Middle School possible, and we look forward to imagining what the FAIS campus of the future could be!
