Nature Play in the FAIS Forest

Fifth graders have built forts twice this week in the new Nature Play + Forts area in the forest. Their teacher, Cédric Strapart, says, “they love it!”

According to a 2010 National Wildlife Study, playing in nature has academic benefits:

  • Improved classroom behavior
  • Increased student motivation and enthusiasm to learn
  • Better performance in math, science, reading and social studies
  • Enhanced concentration
  • Higher scores on standardized tests (including college entrance exams)

Want to help? There’s an FAIS Forest Work Party on Saturday, October 26 from 9 AM to 12 PM, to work on the upcoming Parkour area in the forest. Tools and gloves provided, just show up! Contact bclifton@faispdx.org to learn more.
