The 3rd graders went on a field trip last Friday to tour the Portland bridges. The trip “bridges” their current unit on “Who we are” about identity with their upcoming unit on “Where we are in place and time” about how people try to improve their way of life over time. They explored elements about the history and identity of Portland through learning about types of bridges and some that are unique to Portland. They even had the Morrison Bridge opened, just for them, and got to see inside the bridge as well. Their upcoming unit will build on the knowledge they’ve gained as they work to construct their own bridge model and explore different inventions over time.
