Current Volunteer Opportunities

Want to get a start on your volunteer hours for the 2019-20 school year? FAIS is a major sponsor of Portland’s annual Bastille Day Festival, which will be hosted by the Alliance Française this year on Saturday, July 13 from 12:00 to 6:00 PM at Jamison Square in the Pearl. Helpers are needed at the FAIS booth! Duties include booth set-up and tear-down, crowd control for our face paint artist, handing out goodies to festival-goers, and promoting FAIS to the francophone community. Please contact the Office of Admissions at admissions@faispdx.org to sign up for a two-hour slot.

Do you have Project Manager skills? Eighth grade design teacher, Beth Clifton, is looking for a few adult coordinators to act as mentors to support the planning and design of the 6th Annual TEAM Day – Together Everyone Achieves More scheduled for October 10th. Motivated adult volunteers are needed to work directly with 8th grade design student teams in coordinating and organizing the event. We will need you on Wednesday afternoons (1:30-3:30) to meet with the students and teacher, Beth Clifton on the following dates: Sept. 4, Sept. 11, Sept. 18, Sept. 25, Oct. 2, Oct. 9, Oct 16, and on the event date of Oct 10 from 12:30-3:30. Collaboration with student teams and mentors is essential to the success of the event. Interested parents please contact bclifton@faispdx.org for further details.

Lower School or Gilkey parents interested in working closely with middle school students: Gilkey Green Team Mentor(s) - for 2019-2020

Are you the one to guide eco-minded Gilkey students to follow their passions? An adult (staff or parent of any age level) is needed to continue the mentorship of Gilkey’s Green Team. This group of middle school students meets weekly throughout the school year. As a certified Eco School USA school, FAIS uses sustainability initiatives and material from the National Wildlife Federation and students’ passions to guide green actions and activities.  Contact Beth Clifton, bclifton@faispdx.org, for more info.

Do you need a volunteer opportunity that provides flexibility and fits with your busy schedule? Do you want to make a difference in the future environmental impact of the forest for FAIS and beyond its boundaries? Would you like to help over the summer to prepare outdoor spaces for the start of school. The forest needs you!! Become a "forest fairy" and adopt-a-space. You may work at any time of year. You may recruit your family and friends or just work solo. You could even support the nature initiative that your child's teacher has adopted. Contact forest manager and science teacher, Beth Clifton, to hear about adopt-a-space options, set up a forest tour, develop an action plan, and create a self-directed volunteer schedule. bclifton@faispdx.org

Do you have an interest, connections, or expertise in working with foundations, grant applications/management, or external fundraising?  If you do, please contact Ami S. Margolin at amargolin@faispdx.org about possibly contributing to a new FAIS school task force.
