Current Volunteer Opportunities

March 21st is the Spring Equinox and this is a perfect time to get outside and tackle restoration and infrastructure needs in the forest.  We are preparing to open up a previously unused space in the forest to create a challenge course, a biking detour, and nature play space. There are many options to help:

  • Saturday, March 30; 9 AM-12 PM: The first cut! Be the first to tackle this new space. Bring saws!
  • Saturday, April 13; 9 AM-12 PM: Clear the border! Help prepare the space for the tardy Earth Day event.
  • Saturday, May 4; 9 AM-12 PM: FAIS’ official Earth Day Eco Action Work Party

Bring your family and friends. Park in between Satellites 3 and 4; we will meet at the trail entrance by the outdoor amphitheater. If late, take the trail to the left. Tools provided. Arrive in proper attire for working in the forest, see Nature Safety Guidelines at FAIS. RSVP welcome, but not necessary. Questions, contact bclifton@faispdx.org

In preparation for the upcoming FAIS Annual Gala, the Gala Committee is hoping for wine donations from the FAIS community. A donation of wine over $20 a bottle counts as one volunteer hour. Bring them by the Front Office or contact Sara Hernando at shernando@faispdx.org.

There are over 50 opportunities for parents to volunteer at this year’s gala on Saturday, April 6, 2019. Opportunities include setting-up/tearing down, working check-in and selling raffle tickets, and helping to load the truck on the Friday before. Interested? Sign-up here!

The library is in need of a volunteer who would work on demand (some weeks more than others, but no more than 2 hours a week) in  preparing books for circulation. This entails detailed handwork covering books with mylar, and finishing the physical color coding of library materials all throughout the school year.

Do you have an interest, connections, or expertise in working with foundations, grant applications/management, or external fundraising?  If you do, please contact Ami S. Margolin at amargolin@faispdx.org about possibly contributing to a new FAIS school task force.
