The Extracurricular Department’s commitment to cultural enrichment manifests itself in our array of different afterschool programs as well as the range of experience of our staff members. Our Extracurricular Aides share their international culture and knowledge with their students, as all of them have traveled or lived overseas. Our programs are aimed at balancing the demands of our curriculum and providing opportunities to relax, have fun, and try new things.

The Extracurricular Department provides an enriching and fun environment for students outside of the classroom. The Department is responsible for covering lunch, recess, and the following programs:

An after-school program for 5th-8th grade students which includes cross country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and track.

Arts & Cultural Enrichment (ACE) Week and Arts Week
Two weeks, one in October and one in February, when students have the opportunity to spend a week at the School participating in a diverse array of activities.

FASCA (After-School care)
All students remaining on campus when classes end will be directed to this program. FASCA is separated by grade level. Activities, recess, and homework time are provided.

PM Classes
As an alternative to FASCA, students may elect to take PM Classes on a range of subjects. Advanced registration is required.

On-campus student supervision, including specialized workshops and field trips, is offered on most school In-Service days.

Summer Camp
A wide variety of weekly camps for all age groups are offered throughout the summer.

Artist in Residence
FAIS is proud to have Pendulum Dance Theatre as its artist in residence.

Extracurricular News

Winter break is upon us, and though it may seem logical to think that fall PM Classes would be coming to a close, they will actually continue through January. The Extracurricular Department has been working on crafting the schedule for spring classes, and registration was launched this Tuesday. Spring PM Classes will start the first week of February. This semester brings a slew of new teachers to the schedule and some exciting new classes.
FAIS' extracurricular department is partnering with Oregon Ballet Theatre (OBT) to host several dance classes for students registered for FAIS+ on November 20 and 21. The workshops include hip hop, ballet, "Make a Dance," and "Story Dance," all will be available on both days of the program.
On October 13, we'll have a special Halloween-themed day. Students are encouraged to come in their costumes (as are staff), and all groups will take turns in a special parade at the roundabout. After the parade, the kids divide into their FASCA groups to write a play based on their costumes, which they will then perform for the other groups by the end of the day. It promises to be a SPOOKTACULAR day!
