Adventure-Palooza Rafting Trip

July 9, 2018 - July 12, 2018, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM
Every Day
Maupin, Oregon
Presenters:
Minda McCandless (mmccandless@faispdx.org)

The Deschutes River and its rapids await! This adrenaline-pumping rafting adventure will be balanced by socializing with fellow Gilkey students and sleeping under the stars. This three-day, three-night rafting and camping trip will include the following:

  • A 45-mile, three-day float in the sun
  • Plenty of time to be with friends in the beautiful Deschutes River area
  • Water fights with other rafts (well, other Gilkey rafts!)
  • Delicious food
  • Plenty of natural beauty

We will leave Portland the afternoon of Monday, July 9, and our first night will be spent in Maupin where we’ll enjoy some sun, togetherness, and Gilkey-socializing. We will wake up early and paddle hard for the next three days, arriving back in Portland about 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 12.

Please note: rafting down the Deschutes is not for everyone. Participants should know that for the duration of the trip there are no mirrors, showers, flush toilets, or electricity. What is guaranteed is a thrilling experience, a dose of interesting Oregon history, some solitude and time “off the grid,” and a lot of socializing! Safety is a top priority, and the rafting company who will lead the trip, Sage Canyon River Co., is licensed by the BLM to operate on the river. All guides are CPR and First Aid trained, and all guides on the overnight have at least three years of experience (many with 10 years or more). There are first aid kits on the rafts and in every vehicle, and every participant and chaperone will wear a top-of-the-line, Coast-Guard-certified life jacket.

Registration cost includes transportation, meals, rafting, a commemorative CD of professional photos of our trip, mattresses, sun…and, most importantly, FUN!

If you’d like more information, contact Minda McCandless at mmccandless@faispdx.org or Patrick Cornell at summerfest@faispdx.org.
