Eighth graders have just returned from their international trips, with separate groups traveling to Austria, Chile, China, France (Martinique), and Spain this year.
These 2-week trips are a longstanding tradition at Gilkey, and a culminating experience for 8th graders. Students travel to a country where their beginning language (the language they began studying in 6th grade) is spoken. This gives them the opportunity to put their language skills to the test while immersing themselves in another culture, and also celebrating the end of their middle school years with peers.
This year's trips included two new destinations: Chile and the French Caribbean island of Martinique.
