Student Monitor


Join the Extended Learning Team, whose daily mission is to encourage collaborative play, learning, and safety during the “in-between” times in our students’ days.


The French American International School has openings for full and part-time Student Monitors for the 2022-23 school year, beginning in September 2022. The primary responsibility for this position is to supervise FAIS students when outside of classroom time, when they are not under the direct supervision of the teachers. Creativity, flexibility and a positive attitude are crucial to succeed in this role.


Student Monitors are also instrumental in delivery of the bi-annual ACE (Arts and Cultural Enrichment) Week, and a variety of other functions that provide essential support for the achievement of the School’s educational and cultural mission. Engagement for optional programs is under a separate contract and at the discretion of the Extended Learning Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone who wants a leg up in international education, or likes working with kids!


Example of duties:

  • Supervise students during the school day at lunch, recess, and pick-up, and after school through the After School Care program.
  • Escort students to PM Classes and pickup areas, and provide snacks
  • Provide transitional coverage for Teachers and Teacher Assistants as needed
  • Collaborative planning of fun and engaging activities for afterschool care and other programs
  • Attend meetings and in-service days
  • Help maintain clean and tidy classrooms
  • Establish rapport, and model mutual respect and appropriate behavior interacting with all students
  • Uphold safety standards and lead students in conflict resolution as needed
  • Adhere to requirements for confidentiality regarding student information


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree, or equivalent
  • Fluency in French or another language besides English
  • An interest in international education, and experience living abroad and/or working in a multilingual environment


Minimum Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in childcare and/or educational setting
  • Flexibility and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Physical mobility sufficient to assure the safety of children
  • Employment contingent upon successful enrollment in the Office of Child Care’s Central Background Registry


Physical Requirements: This position includes a good deal of physical activity, including but not limited to: walking and standing for periods of up to up to 1 hour and 30 minutes at a time, bending, stooping, kneeling, running, sitting on the floor, and occasionally lifting children.


Working Conditions: Child supervision occurs predominantly outdoors in all seasons, therefore Monitors will often carry out their duties in cold and wet weather conditions.


Benefits: This position comes with a competitive benefits package including employer paid medical and dental coverage during the school year. Full time positions at 32.5 hours; part time positions between 15-20 hours. This position begins at $17 per hour, with scheduled pay increases over time.
