At the 2012 Annual Meeting, the Board of Trustees announced its plans to expand the FAIS Campus to include a new space for art, music, and movement. Renovation of the recently purchased house and property on Cornell Road will make this possible by transforming the space into the FAIS Center for the Arts.
New Places, New Spaces
Renovations on the new Center for the Arts are in full swing this summer, transforming the 6,000-square-foot house and property on Cornell Road into an expanded new space for Lower and Middle School Art, Lower and Middle School Music, and Movement Arts. The new facility additionally will support FAIS’ ACE/Arts Week and Summer Programs, and will have an indoor flex space as well as inspirational outdoor learning spaces that can be used for fine-weather alumni and community functions. The new CFA is scheduled to open for classes this September.
The addition of this new facility will help solve one of FAIS’ most immediate challenges—the need for additional classroom space to accommodate the School’s healthy enrollment and expanding curriculum and educational program. Having a more centralized space for studio arts, music, and movement will unite these programs for students of all ages, and provide adequate studio learning spaces for years to come. This new facility also will free up much needed classroom space on our main campus, helping us reach our 2013-14 school year classroom requirements.
It's not too late to be a part of this exciting new addition to the FAIS Campus!
As of June 2013, the FAIS community had generously committed nearly $275,000 in gifts and pledges to the En Avant Capital Campaign for the Center for the Arts. Four Portland-area foundations—Wheeler, Juan Young Trust, Silver Family Foundation, and M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust—have also supported the capital project with awards totaling $110,000. Our fundraising is not complete, however, and it’s not too late to make a gift to the CFA online or by sending a check to the FAIS development office. Take this opportunity to make your donation count double: all new gifts to the CFA will be matched by the Silver Family Foundation, on behalf of FAIS parents Tyler Silver and Joel Schudde, up to $50,000. Every donor to the new Center for the Arts will be invited to a Sneak Peek Party in August, before the official opening for the 2013-14 school year.
