Parent participation via volunteer commitment plays an essential role at FAIS by 1) modeling responsible, service-oriented behavior to students and 2) involving the entire family in the student’s educational life. In addition, the volunteer system allows FAIS to keep administrative expenses low relative to many other schools.

FAIS requires that every family commit to 20 hours of service each year. If the 20 hours are not met, families will be charged $20 per unfulfilled hour. Remember to log your volunteer hours on Edline. After entering your user name and password, you will find the volunteer log link on the right side of the page.

New volunteer opportunities are announced in the Lower School and Middle School weekly parent newsletters.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

NATURE TRAIL WORK PARTY - June 5; 3:40 - 5:40 p.m.
habitat restoration 6th environmental science.jpg

Help Gilkey 6th graders increase the biodiversity and ecological stability of the FAIS forest! Support the goal of creating a native meadow buffer around the upper border of the FAIS nature trail that will also aid 1st graders in increasing the number of native mason bee pollinators. During this work party you will help to manage invasive species by mulching around native plants and target invasive plants for removal.

FAIS families are welcome to join the volunteer effort. Wear gloves and long layers to protect from thorns. Bring plenty of energy and tools if you have them: shovels, steel rakes, wheel barrows, buckets, clippers, and/or loppers. Rain or shine, meet in the FAIS Garden area and earn up to four volunteer hours.
