PLC

Welcome! The PLC, or Parent Liaison Committee, is your link between home and school. It is the dedication and commitment of our community members – faculty, administration, Board of Trustees and parents – that make FAIS an extraordinary experience for our children.

The PLC’s number one priority is to meet the needs of our FAIS families. Our role is to facilitate communication between parents and school and to cultivate a strong sense of community on our campus. We look forward to your help in achieving these goals through our various volunteer efforts.

Parents and students feel more connected when they are informed. The PLC uses two sources to deliver information: (1) the Lower School and Middle School Weekly emails and (2) the PLC meetings. PLC meeting summaries and presentation content are also posted on Edline.

Get Engaged!

Parents find volunteering and being an active member of the FAIS community to be rewarding and enriching experiences. The PLC offers several opportunities to become engaged. Volunteer positions include: staff appreciation events, community service, yearbook, scrip, Run for the Arts, lost and found, the school picnic as well as many other opportunities. In addition, there are other school sponsored events and functions that depend upon parent volunteers such as the Annual Gala and la Fête du Vin. Whether as a class volunteer, committee member, or in a leadership position, volunteering allows our parents to share their time and talents. We always need help with projects big and small. We can’t do it without you!

Get Connected!

The PLC meets regularly for both Lower School and Middle School parents. The meetings are a great place to connect with other parents and to hear the latest news from the PLC, school, and Board. The format of our hour-long meetings will be new this school year. The meeting will open with a brief 10 minute business section with “State of the School” information provided by the Head of School, a division head, or perhaps a Board member. Following PLC business, we will have an open, informal Q & A session where you can dialog with critical school staff and other parents to get answers to your questions or to better understand an aspect of the school. All questions and discussions are welcome. We may also have an occasional relevant presentation in the second half of the meeting. Previous topics have included: “Transitioning to Middle School," “Internet Safety” and “Choosing and Transitioning to High School." The PLC welcomes and encourages your input on topics of interest.

Whether you are a long-time family or are brand new to FAIS, getting involved in the PLC is the best way to foster a great school community for our children. I hope you will find something that best suits your family’s time, availability, interests, and talents. I look forward to meeting you soon.
