Information for Incoming Students

Welcome to the French American International School! Here you will find information and forms for students joining us mid-year.

Athletics

Gilkey Athletics offers a number of fall, winter and spring competitive sports teams. Most teams compete in the Metro Christian League (MCL), a sports league for independent, private and public middle schools.

Each season lasts two to three months and meets for practice and/or competition about three times per week. The cost for each sport is $150. There is a “no cut” policy. Teams will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you have questions about the Athletics program please contact Director of Extracurricular Programs Jonathan Mascaut

FASCA, FAIS Plus, and Milk

The FAIS Extracurricular Department provides an enriching environment for students outside of the classroom.

You may purchase milk for the school year ($70 for the year; pro-rated on a monthly basis), prepaid FASCA (after-school care) plans, and FAIS Plus (childcare on In Service days and Parent-Teacher Conferences) using this online form. There are separate registration forms for Athletics and PM Classes. Payment and registration in person at the FAIS Front Office is also accepted for all extracurricular programs. If you use FASCA but do not purchase a prepaid plan, you will be billed at a rate of $8.50/hour.

Lunch Program

W e are pleased to announce Burrito Bar as our lunch provider for the 2012-2013 school year. Burrito Bar uses fresh, locally-sourced foods to provide a healthy lunch option delivered to your child’s classroom. Lunches are available for purchase on Monday and Wednesday and are available in two different sizes: Full size (available as a meal or entrée only) and mini-size (available as a meal only and recommended for PS through second grade students).

Burrito Bar offers beef, chicken or veggie options for their burritos and tacos. Additionally, tacos are available with corn or flour tortillas, and can be made without dairy for children with food sensitivities and/or allergies. While all foods are nut free, the cookies may be prepared in a facility that processes nut products.

Scrip Program

The FAIS Scrip Program is a free and easy way to raise money to support FAIS events and  activities. Scrip is just another term for gift cards or gift  certificates that are tendered just like cash at participating  businesses. Every merchant that participates has their own Gift  Cards/Certificates with special logos, colors, water marks, serial  numbers, and dollar increments. Scrip is used like cash!

Visit the Parents welcome page to download the current scrip form.

Volunteer

Parent participation via volunteer commitment plays an essential role at FAIS by 1) modeling responsible, service-oriented behavior to students and 2) involving the entire family in the student’s educational life. In addition, the volunteer system allows FAIS to keep administrative expenses low relative to many other schools.

FAIS requires that every family commit to 20 hours of service each year. If the 20 hours are not met, families will be charged $20 per unfulfilled hour.
