Arts and Cultural Enrichment Weeks
FAIS operates on an academic calendar that is broken up by five 7 to 8-week periods with breaks for Winter Break, Spring Break, and Arts and Cultural Enrichment Weeks.
School is not in session during Arts and Cultural Enrichment Weeks, and an alternate program is provided for students who wish to participate. For lower school students, the Extracurricular Department creates theme-based ACE Weeks that place a strong emphasis on the arts and often involve outside instructors. Middle school students participate in different workshops centered around different forms of visual art during Arts Week. Hours for both programs are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., with activities scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Fall ACE Week: Sports Week: The Return!
Students will have the opportunity to create an individualized schedule based on their interests in this week long sports themed week. Each participant will have a variety of sports to choose from, including: soccer, basketball, kickball, golf, archery, yoga, lawn games and more. Part of the week will include a field trip to Providence Park to take a tour of the Timbers Stadium. Register for Fall ACE Week here.
Spring ACE Week: Cinema Extraordinaire
Students will write, act, direct and produce their own short films in small groups. All films will be available and uploaded to a secure site by the end of the week, so that parents to see what they've accomplished. Students will have different objectives to meet during the week and will go home savvy in cinema.
