Arts and Cultural Enrichment Weeks
FAIS operates on an academic calendar that is broken up by five 7 to 8-week periods with breaks for Winter Break, Spring Break, and Arts and Cultural Enrichment Weeks.
School is not in session during Arts and Cultural Enrichment Weeks, and an alternate program is provided for students who wish to participate. For lower school students, the Extracurricular Department creates theme-based ACE Weeks that place a strong emphasis on the arts and often involve outside instructors. Middle school students participate in different workshops centered around different forms of visual art during Arts Week. Hours for both programs are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., with activities scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Spring ACE Week: Podcasting
Students will work on writing, producing, practicing, recording, and editing their own 30-minute podcast. All episodes will be available and uploaded to a secure site by the end of the week, so that parents to see what they've accomplished. Younger students will have the option of working on group or class podcasts, and will have different objectives to meet during the week.

Fall ACE Week: The Great Outdoors
Outdoor education, survival skills, and recreation were the featured topics during this adventurous week. Students learned about plant identification, tracking, outdoor cooking, fire starting, and first aid safety. Outside experts and artists came to campus to teach the group about Oregon land history and share Native American storytelling.
