Extracurricular

The Extracurricular Department’s commitment to cultural enrichment manifests itself in our array of different afterschool programs as well as the range of experience of our staff members. Our Extracurricular Aides share their international culture and knowledge with their students, as all of them have traveled or lived overseas. Our programs are aimed at balancing the demands of our curriculum and providing opportunities to relax, have fun, and try new things.

The Extracurricular Department provides an enriching and fun environment for students outside of the classroom. The Department is responsible for covering lunch, recess, and the following programs:

Athletics
An after-school program for 5th-8th grade students which includes cross country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and track.

Arts & Cultural Enrichment (ACE) Week and Arts Week
Two weeks, one in October and one in February, when students have the opportunity to spend a week at the School participating in a diverse array of activities.

FASCA (After-School care)
All students remaining on campus when classes end will be directed to this program. FASCA is separated by grade level. Activities, recess, and homework time are provided.

PM Classes
As an alternative to FASCA, students may elect to take PM Classes on a range of subjects. Advanced registration is required.

FAIS Plus
On-campus student supervision, including specialized workshops and field trips, is offered on most school In-Service days.

Summer Camp
A wide variety of weekly camps for all age groups are offered throughout the summer.

Artist in Residence
FAIS is proud to have Pendulum Dance Theatre as its artist in residence.

Please feel free to contact me for further information about our programs.

The Extracurricular Department seeks parent volunteer to assist with an OMSI-hosted PM Class this fall semester. Parent would fulfill whole year's worth of volunteer hours by committing to the supervision of students one hour per week for 15 weeks. Email Laura Birshan for more details, lbirshan@faispdx.org.
Fall PM Classes start September 11th. If any parents with niche talents are interested in teaching a PM Class, please contact Laura Birshan for more information. This is a great way to fulfill volunteer hours!
