"Gilkey Arts Week is Magical!"

"Arts Week is magical!" This was how 7th grader Julia described Arts Week when asked to tell a new student about this special week. In explaining her comment, Julia described the fused glass clock she completed last year during Arts Week that now has been given a special place in her home and that guests cannot believe she really created. This experience, of being able to complete art projects that are more advanced and impressive, not only to peers but to parents and adult observers, is a frequent one for Arts Week participants.
Arts Week was designed to provide unique and engaging art experiences for our Gilkey students, giving them the opportunities to work with area artists in a variety of different and compelling artistic media. During this October's Arts Week students can elect to work in ceramics, figure drawing, glazed tile design, digital photography, fused glass, painting in the style of Jackson Pollock, jewelry and accessory design, and spray paint art, to name just some of the workshop offerings.
Each Arts Week is unique with special offerings for students. During this Arts Week, students have the opportunity to go to Seattle to the Pacific Science Center to see the King Tut exhibit "Tutankhamun: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs"' and the Imax film Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs. This could be a once-in-a-lifetime chance, since this will be the last time this collection will come to North America. Seeing these great works from antiquity is a fabulous opportunity for our students.

Spray Paint I and II are currently full with waitlists, but some spaces are left in other workshops as well as the field trip to the King Tut exhibit. We welcome all Gilkey students to join us during the week of October 22 - 26. Students can elect to come for one or up to five days for this special week of exploring in the visual arts.
