ACE Week Field Trips

Posted October 12, 2012

On Thursday and Friday of the fall ACE Week, we will head downtown for some exciting field trips! On Thursday we will be attending the BFG (Big Friendly Giant) at the Northwest Children’s Theater. Roald Dahl’s classic book is being adapted by David Wood. Here is a short blurb about the play:

It’s the “witching hour” and Sophie has been whisked away by the world’s only “nice and jumbly giant,” the BFG! It’s off to Giant Country, land of the “humplecrimps,” “frobscottle” and the “uckyslush Snozzcumbers.” Together, they must save the children of England from much bigger less-friendly giants.

On Friday we will go to the Newmark Theater and watch Duck 4 President. Here’s some info:

He organized protests and taught the cows to type. He lobbied for vacations and won mooovie nights. Now he’s running for the highest office in the land. From the same team that brought you Click Clack Moo: Cows that Type and Giggle, Giggle, Quack, Oregon Children’s Theatre brings you Duck for President!

Fed up with farm chores, Duck decides to challenge Farmer Brown to an election, only to discover that being in charge of the farm is hard work. So he decides to run for governor—and then president—kissing babies and hitting the late-night talk show circuit along the way.

With showy campaign numbers, barnyard election antics, and nods to famous presidential moments, you’ll be ready to vote Duck for President no matter what side of the election you’re on.

After the play we will go to the Gerding Theater and receive a tour of Portland Center Stage. This promises to be an extremely unique field trip and tons of fun.
