A Note from Pam

Dear FAIS families,
Sometimes the best way to invigorate a community is to bring visitors who give us new perspectives, and reinforce all we are doing as students, parents, faculty, and staff. Our French fifth grade correspondents flew into Portland on Sunday, October 7, and already, this first week, I see them thoroughly involved in FAIS life. Many thanks go to all our fifth grade families who are hosting students in their homes. It has been wonderful to see our fifth graders proudly escorting their respective correspondents around campus to classes, sports events, and on field trips around the city.
The first of our ACE Weeks begins on October 22, following the theme of performing arts. For each age group the main focus of the week will be writing, designing, and performing a short play/skit to be filmed. Our extracurricular staff will lead participants in all elements of theater, from writing narrative and dialogue, to acting out scenes, to set design, makeup, and lighting. For Middle School students, our Arts Week program offers a wide variety of workshops in the visual arts, in addition to a Seattle field trip to see the King Tut exhibit. Our students are in for a fun week!
We hope to see all of our Special Appeal 2012 donors this Sunday at 4:00 p.m. under the Pavilion for the grand opening of Discovery Park. There will be a ribbon cutting and a chance for our kids to experience the new space for the first time.
