ACE Week: Theater of Performing Arts

Posted September 14, 2012

The main focus of Fall ACE Week (October 22-26) will be working up a short skit or play to be filmed and premiered at the end of the week. We will kick off this ACE week with a workshop from the Oregon Children’s Theatre entitled: Read, Write, Act. This will help lay the foundation for the week, as the children will learn about scripts, character development, and acting while receiving a base knowledge of the theater. The Oregon Ballet Theatre will host another workshop. The end of the week will be focused on going out and experiencing the theater. On Thursday we will visit the Northwest Children’s Theater to watch Roald Dahl’s BFG (Big Friendly Giant) and have a picnic lunch at Couch Park. On Friday, we will head to the Armory to get a behind the scenes look at how Portland Center Stage is run and what the backstage experience is like. We will also head to the Newmark Theater to watch Duck 4 President! As usual we will be using Eco-Shuttle’s 48 passenger biodiesel school bus and their 25 passenger mini-bus in order to help with our carbon footprint. All age groups are welcome to attend the field trips, but if you choose to not send your child there will be alternative care available for those days. However, please know that your child may not be with other children in their age group.

For those not interested in attending the full week, there will be a two day option for Thursday and Friday, which are the field trip days. It is possible to attend only the beginning of the week instead; however, there will be no way to ensure your child being in the video or getting to fully participate in the project unless they attend on Thursday and Friday.

ACE Week Hours
Workshops and activities begin at 9 AM and end at 3:30 PM; however, the registration price includes morning childcare beginning at 8 AM and afternoon care until 5 PM.
