Recap of Gilkey Talents – The Showcase, Community Service, and Student Accomplishments
Posted June 14, 2012
The 2012 Gilkey Talent Showcase was a hit! Acts included martial arts, acapela singing, jamming guitar solos, violin duets, boy and coed bands, and singing in Chinese, Spanish, and English. What a talented group of middle school students we have!
The show was organized by the music teacher, David Olson's, Stagecraft elective class. Students from his class guided the application and audition process, as well as planning and producing the show. The master of ceremony was 8th grader Thomas P. With his British accent and quick jokes, he helped keep the show ahead of schedule. Joining him were student council president and vice president, Shayna P. and Cameron B. These eighth graders helped to honor the talents of all Gilkey students with shout-outs for community service accomplishments and extracurricular achievements (see list of recipients below).

Gilkey Athletics Rap written and performed by Cameron B and Alex H
C: These last three years at Gilkey
Have been a great success
For this class in athletics
Because we are the best
A: Two championships in soccer
And one basketball too
If you think you can do better
I’d like to see it fool
C: At times we got emotional
But we got over that
It was so amazing
Ryan got athletic from fat
A: Laub thinks he can shoot threes
but you can scratch overthat
C: This kid’s alley-oops made his shots look like crap
Hyland’s running laps with Hadley right on his back
A: Seems like only our grade can do this well at track
Adin’s running distance, Ryan’s throwing just as far
C: But Joey ditched the relay so it didn’t go that far
A: Hadley’s fourth (in the) country
It's hard to better that
We needed a 3000
Cause that's where Adin’s at
C: Overall it was a good time
Think we'll remember that
A: When we look back in the future
C: No matter where you're at
A: We got someone to thank
C: Ron and Anne ya know it's you
A: But we can't forget the others
C: Connor, Jonathan to
A: Ansen you help a lot
C: Paul and David's brothers too
A: But mostly to our parents
We owe a big thank you
A/C: THANK YOU
Eagle Excellence Awards for Community Service
All Gilkey students support the missions of FAIS and the IB Middle Years Program by participating in community service. Our community service program aims to encourage intercultural awareness through acceptance, respect, empathy and understanding. These interactive service activities are meant to enrich students emotionally, socially, morally and culturally. Community service requirements are: 10 hours for sixth grade, 13 hours for seventh grade, and 15 hours for eighth. This year Gilkey students contributed almost 3000 hours of service to the community!
The Gilkey Eagle Excellence Award recognizes special students whose community service contributions far exceed Gilkey’s expectations. Their spirit of service demonstrates responsible citizenship! This year Gilkey was able to honor seventeen recipients of the award. Their combined 921 hours of service represent 30 percent of the total hours earned by all 176 Gilkey students.
