We will leave Portland the afternoon of Monday, July 8, arrive in Maupin and just enjoy some sun, togetherness, and Gilkey-socializing our first night. We start early and paddle hard for the next three days, arriving back in Portland about 6 PM on Thursday, July 11.
Some things are meant to be experienced, and a raft trip down the Deschutes is one of them. However, it is not for everyone. Participants should know that for the duration of the trip there are no mirrors, showers, flush toilets, or electricity. But, if you want thrills which can’t be found many places, Oregon history, a bit of solitude, and a lot of socializing, this is the trip!
Safety is of course a top priority. The rafting company, Sage Canyon River Co., is licensed by the BLM to operate on the river. All guides are CPR and First Aid trained, and all guides on the overnight have at least three years experience, with most having 10 or more years experience. There are first aid kits on the rafts and in every vehicle. Everybody wears a life jacket (top of the line Coast Guard certified).
The registration deadline is May 31. Cost is $595 all inclusive of transportation, meals, rafting, CD of professional photos of our trip, mattresses, sun, and fun. A $200 deposit should accompany registration and is fully refundable through May 1.
