Get your “grow" on in this class, and experience the gardening process from seed to table. Choose your favorite vegetables and fruits to grow from local seed magazines, factoring in the local climate and garden space, and plant them in class. Once seeds have germinated we will transplant our seedlings into the school’s raised beds and help them grow! We will also work with some of our favorite vegetables in the kitchen…green smoothies and kale chips, anyone? Have fun in this hands-on class where you’ll learn about plant botany, soil biology, and the social and environmental benefits of local and organic farming. We will also spend a few classes drawing and creatively observing our plants. Students will leave this class with a better understanding of easy, sustainable gardening techniques and a renewed appreciation for food.

Using photography and Photoshop Elements, it will seem like we were really there. Familiarize yourself with the public transportation, typical city streets, and shopping for local products at the markets. There will also be an opportunity to have a traditional festival such as Carnaval, and to do other activities common in Latin America, but rare here in the US.
