Athletics

Our mission is to complete the circle of education; that is, exercise and competition as a part of the intellectual experience. Our goal is for all students to become physically active for life and to that end we strive for inclusiveness and sportsmanship.

Gilkey’s sports program was officially launched in 1998 with our first basketball teams. The Gilkey Eagles have now grown to six sports, over ten teams, and are composed of over 100 athletes. Our participation rate is over 80 percent.

Athletics offers all students the opportunity to participate on a team and in meaningful physical activity. The program actively promotes the health and safety of the participants and provides opportunity for personal growth through individual and team participation.

Competitive teams generally meet three times per week for games and practices. A fee is collected for each sport to pay coaches, referees, uniforms, and equipment.

Most teams compete in the Metro Christian League (MCL), an organization comprised of a number of independent schools. The sports program strives to include all participants; thus, teams are formed on a first-come, first-served basis.
