Welcome to the Lower School
Our preschool through fifth grade is taught by approximately forty teachers and assistants and has a student body of more than 300 in nineteen classes. As of February 2013, the French American Lower School is an IB World School for the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Accredited by the French Ministry of Education, the Lower School follows the recommendations and directives of the French curriculum through an immersion program beginning with preschool. A high quality English curriculum is integrated starting in the second grade. The English program is based on the guidelines of the National Council of Teachers of English and the State of Oregon.
The instruction of the students follows the French system of cycles. Cycle one comprises preschool, prekindergarten and kindergarten and is known as Maternelle. Cycle two comprises first and second grades, and cycle three, third, fourth and fifth grades. This flexible, team-based system accommodates diversity and permits each child to progress at his or her own pace. The curriculum of each cycle promotes specific developmental objectives and fosters sound learning skills.
Special projects are an important priority here at the French American Lower School; whether short or long term, to be implemented in the classroom or directed toward new pedagogical research, they are another sign of our extraordinary energy and dynamism. There is always something exciting happening in the primary school: field trips, the semaine du goût cuisine appreciation week, OMSI science camp, theatrical performances, the annual trip to France…and the list goes on. Our commitment to the continuing professional development of the staff and ongoing research make the school a place of vitality and rich cultural exchange.
Bienvenue à l’École Primaire
Notre école compte plus de trois cents élèves répartis dans 19 classes de la Petite Section Maternelle au CM2 et une quarantaine d’enseignants et assistants.
Homologuée par le Ministère de l’Éducation Nationale, l’école primaire en suit les programmes et les lignes directrices, avec un programme d’immersion dès la Petite Section Maternelle. Elle intègre également un curriculum de grande qualité délivré en anglais à partir du CE1 (Grade 2) sur la base du National Council of Teachers of English et l’état de l’Oregon. La scolarité des élèves s’oriente sur trois cycles, permettant ainsi à chaque enfant de progresser à son rythme. Chaque cycle correspond à des objectifs précis de développement et d’apprentissage.
Notre école est également dotée d’un projet d’école en quatre points qui permet à l’ensemble de notre communauté de travailler vers des objectifs communs.
Les projets vont bon train dans notre école : qu’ils soient ponctuels ou à plus long terme, qu’ils soient liés directement à la classe ou qu’ils s’orientent vers des recherches, ils contribuent à créer une énergie et un dynamisme qui se traduit par un plaisir évident à travailler tous ensemble. Il se passe tout le temps quelque chose à l’école primaire : sorties scolaires, semaine du goût, camp de sciences, spectacles, voyage en France…
La formation professionnelle et la recherche constante font de notre école un lieu de vie et d’échanges particulièrement riche.
